The most famous and historical French wine region is Bordeaux. Many find this region and its wine to be difficult to engage, but are drawn to it because of its global popularity. Simply put, some may just want to drink and appreciate it. I'm a big fan and here's a marvelous starting point. Chateau Mongravey is a superb choice of excellent Bordeaux red. It's certainly not an inexpensive wine, but it will introduce you to a solid Bordeaux taste. This wine is from the Left Bank appellation of Margaux, known for its unique gravel and sandy soil near the Gironde River. Margaux wines are known for haunting perfume, silky texture, and concentrated flavors. Our 2014 Mongravey has it all. 30-year-old vines provide much of the mature vitality of this wine. Left Bank Bordeaux has traditionally been dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, and this wine offers the dense structure of 75% Cabernet, plus some spice and fruitiness of Merlot (23%), plus a dab of style with Cabernet Franc. French oak aging (55% new) finishes our wine with some tannin and cedar accents. Decanter Magazine highly rates this 2014 Mongravey.
